NMC spends only 7% of budget, very pathetic!
Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Standing Committee has expressed displeasure over the fact that only seven per cent of the budgetary allocations have been utilised so far on developmental works in the last seven months. Standing Committee has urged the NMC administration to expedite the developmental works.
Standing Committee Chairman Nana Shamkule, while talking to reporters after the Standing Committee meeting on Monday, said that NMC budget was passed on May 30. Since then, due to various reasons including excessive rainfall, Code of Conduct for elections, and the special training of Municipal Commissioner, the files of developmental works were pending with the NMC administration. It has led to a situation, when 93 per cent of the budgetary allocations are lying unspent in December, Shamkule said. Shamkule informed that in its meeting, Standing Committee took the decision to repeal the procedural provision of sending back a development work proposal to Zonal Office once it was passed by the Standing Committee. Now, as per the latest decision, the proposal passed by Standing Committee won’t be sent back to Zonal Office, but will be sent directly to Executive Engineer. Thus, a period of around 10-12 days will be reduced, opined Shamkule. Several issues were discussed in the Standing Committee meeting and resolutions were passed. An amount of Rs 30 lakh was approved for development of road from Jaidurga Chowk–Satnami Nagar–Guru Vandana Complex. The total construction cost of this road is Rs 1,32,04,637 and it has got technical approval. For the construction work of roads in Ekatmata Nagar, which is worth Rs 92,77,488, an amount of Rs 25 lakh was approved in the Standing Committee meeting. Other approvals include: estimates of Rs 32,36,471 for widening of a bridge on Wathoda Road, estimates of Rs 28,78,700 for Hajari Pahad to Bhivsenkhori road construction, estimates worth Rs 12,03,387 of tarring of New Nandanvan to Old Nandanvan road, estimates worth Rs 2,61,21,550 of chainlink fencing work to prevent encroachment on 30.49 hectares of railway siding from Wardha Road to SRPF Camp, etc. Standing Committee also gave administrative approval to estimates of works worth Rs 39,99,300 including tarring or roads, spreading of hot-mix, labour work, grouting, metal patches, etc. Approval was also given to revised estimates of works related to valves of overhead storage tanks, and maintenance and repairs of Old Gorewada water treatment plant and pumping station etc. The rate contract for procurement of insecticides for Health Department was also an issue that was discussed in the meeting.
